Curriculum Vitae

I am a specialized knee surgeon, fellow and successor of Prof. M. Martens, a world-renowned Antwerp knee surgeon who has treated several European and international soccer players with whom I had to pleasure to work with for over 20 years. I am currently the head of the Knee Department of the Monica Campus Hospital in Antwerp, Belgium and scientific advisor of the Galeazzi Orthopedic Institute in Milan. Among my patients I have many international athletes, mainly soccer players.

I studied at Leuven (Leuven) University Medical School, one of the most prestigious universities in the world, where I received my degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1990 and I specialised in Orthopedics and Traumatology in 1996. I trained at the Princess Elisabeth Exeter Orthopedic Hospital (UK) and after my training I was fellow for one year in several centers of excellence including Minneapolis, Birmingham Alabama, Salt Lake City, Scottsdale Arizona and Saint Louis.

In addition to my activity at the Antwerp Monica Hospital, I am also a consultant in knee pathologies and sports injuries at the Antwerp Orthopedic Center and at the Brussels Knee Center, as well as a founding member of the Center European de Reeducation, C.E.R. in Rocourt, Liège, a rehabilitation sports clinic.

In Milan I work as a consultant for the IRCCS Galeazzi Orthopedic Institute in collaboration with the Arthroscopic and Sports Traumatology Center.

From 2001 to 2009 I was one ofthe five members of the international panel for the development of the collagen meniscus implant at the Steadman clinic in Vail (Colorado, USA) under the guidance of Dr. R.S. Steadman and Dr. W. Rodkey.

In 2017 I performed an innovative cadaver biomechanics study at Imperial College London (Prof. A. Amis) for the evaluation of the most performing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction technique. My scientific activity consists of lectures at national and international congresses and through publications in specific journals.

I am an internationally recognized expert in reconstructions of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligament, meniscal transplantation and multi-ligament knee injuries, as well ascomplex knee problems. I am also an expert in partial and total knee replacements. I am a founding member of the Belgian Knee Society, member of BVOT (Belgian Association of Orthopedics and Traumatology), active member of SIGASCOT (Italian Knee Society Arthroscopy Sports Cartilage Orthopedic Technologies) and of ESSKA (European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy).

I speak fluently English, Italian, French, German and Flemish (mother tongue).
